MLP Does not have regrets – Sant

Malta Independent Wednesday, 27 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Opposition Leader Alfred Sant yesterday said that the Labour Party does not regret any political decision taken in the past.

Dr Sant was speaking during a Labour Party activity in Paola where a large crowd gathered to listen.

He told the crowd that he does not have any regrets about any decisions taken in the past.

“Not even the Nationalist Party (PN) has any regrets about the lies it tells, or about its lack of action when faced with corruption,” said Dr Sant.

Referring to the PN’s billboards saying that Maghtab is full of roses, the opposition leader said that, just like the rest of the population, he was fooled by the PN.

Dr Sant told the crowd that the MLP delegation yesterday was not allowed to enter Maghtab waste facility because they did not have the necessary permission.

“However, even though we didn’t have permission, the trucks did and were all the time entering Maghtab filled with rubbish,” he said.

Making another reference to the PN billboards, Dr Sant told the Labour supporters that he certainly did not smell any roses when he was at the entrance – much to the crowd’s amusement.

Furthermore, he added sarcastically, “the smell of roses was incredible when we went on the coast road.”

Dr Sant added that workers were sent to see to the trees recently planted on Maghtab.

“However, they had nothing to do as the trees were all dead and dry,” he said to a laughing crowd.

The opposition leader also condemned any form of violence and called on the Labour supporters not to respond to any provocations.

He also expressed his sympathy to Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Harry Vassallo, condemning the attack on his house and called on the authorities to fully investigate who was behind it.
