Sirens were simply no match for the Amateurs who dominated throughout the 90 minutes.

Melita opened the score in the 9th minute with Gregory Degabriele’s corner-kick being headed in by Steve Bonnici. Barely a minute later it was 2-0 for the Amateurs with Bjorn Bondin beating Schembri from close-range with the Sirens? keeper denying Melita further goals as he brought off difficult saves to stop efforts by Gregory Degabriele and Kane Micallef.

On another occasion Micallef hit just high over the bar but they managed to make it 3-0 in the 49th minute with Julian Galea squaring the ball towards Mark Hyzler who beat Schembri with a low shot.

Sirens went close through Zachariah Galea with Melita being unlucky in the 78th minute through Luke Micallef whose shot bounced off the crossbar.

Two minutes later Melita increased their lead through Luke Micallef from a cross by Mark Hyzler and Micallef was again on hand to beat Schembri in the 83rd minute for a 5-0 final scoreline.

Just before the final whistle Melita’s George Gribbon and Sirens? Garth Galea were sent off following an off the ball incident.

Naxxar-B’Bugia SP 1-0

Naxxar opened the score after five minutes as Kevin Fenech’s corner-kick was headed in by their defender Matthew Spiteri Gonzi.

Gradually B’Bugia reacted but it was again Naxxar who went close through Adrian Fenech who hit just wide following a personal effort.

At the other end B’Bugia created a dangerous opportunity through Donald Gatt with Naxxar ending up with ten players in the 25th minute with Kevin Naudi making unwarranted remarks and was immediately shown the red card.

This made it more difficult for the Lions who had to defend their slender lead with B’Bugia going close in the 31st minute through Johan Zammit’s shot which was well saved by Kevin Agius.

In a counter-attack Naxxar had an Adrian Fenech which was saved by Adrian Fenech with B’Bugia increasing the pressure after the break.

The Saints squandered two clear opportunities through Johan Zammit and Ronnie Celeste and later on the Naxxar custodian brought off difficult saves to stop shots by Leslie Burke and Jason Cassar.

On the hour a shot by Donald Gatt was saved by Agius and seven minutes later Xerxen brought off a difficult save off an attempt by Mark Deguara. Deguara hit just wide on another occasion and in the 89th minute B’Bugia’s defender was sent off for a professional foul.

Zurrieq-St.Venera L. 0-0

Zurrieq had a strong start and in the 6th minute a crosshot by Dino Bonnici was saved with difficulty by Elvin Attard.

Two minutes later Attard was again in action as he blocked a long-range shot by Matthew Genuis with St.Venera replying through two attempts by Dylan Mercieca.

In the 23rd minute an indecision in the St.Venera allowed Zurrieq a clear goal scoring opportunity with Godfrey Chetcuti’s header being cleared off the goal line and later on a shot by Dino Bonnici finished just wide.

In the closing stages of the first-half efforts by Godfrey Chetcuti and Dino Bonnici just missed the target.

After the change of ends Zurrieq retained the initiative with Jeffrey Camilleri hitting just wide early on and in the 59th minute a low angled shot by Matthew Genuis finished inches wide of the far post.

Zurrieq sustained the pressure but they were well controlled by a solid St. Venera defensive barrier with the Lightnings creating a counter-attack in the 79th minute through Dylan Mercieca who was however denied by Azzopardi.

In the closing stages the St. Venera keeper Elvin Attard was on hand to save an attempt by Jeffrey Camilleri.

St Andrews-Rabat 0-1

Rabat pushed forward from the early stages and in the 15th minute Alan Zahra crossed from the right flank and Kayne Said headed just wide.

Two minutes later Said was denied by Tabone and in the 19th minute Adam Smeir headed at goal with Tabone saved onto the upright.

In the 27th minute Kayne Said hit home from close-range but the goal was disallowed as the Rabat player was in an offside position but they managed to break the deadlock seven minutes later through Adam Smeir who managed to beat Tabone with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Just before the end of the first period Clint Micallef hit just high over the bar from a well-taken free-kick.

Rabat continued to be the better team throughout the second period and they were unlucky on two occasions as they hit the woodwork through Adam Smeir.

They also wasted some clear goal scoring opportunities with the Saints doing the same through Jonathan Briscoe White.

On 71 minutes Rabat suffered a setback as Darren Galea was shown the red card for retaliation with the Saints taking advantage as they made their final efforts to get back on level terms, twice being denied by Azzopardi off efforts by Jeremy Gatt Coleiro and Adrian Galea.
