A strong Qatar side beat Malta 3-0 on the second day of the world championships in Guangzhou, China, yesterday.
On the opening day, Malta had scored a 3-0 win over Sierra Leone in Group N of Division 4.
In yesterday’s matches, Mario Genovese, Edward Baldacchino and David Pace lost all their matches 3-0.
Genovese lost to Ahmed al Mohannadi 11-8, 11-4, 11-6, Baldacchino lost to Waleed Mohd Nasser Abdulla 11-6, 11-3, 11-3 while Pace lost to Ahmed Alawaqi 11-4, 11-4, 11-7.
Later yesterday, the Malta team had to face Montenegro. Today, they are scheduled to play two more qualifying round matches. In the morning, they meet Jamaica and in the evening, they face Maldives.
At present, Jamaica and Qatar lead the standings in Group N with four points each. Malta and Montenegro follow on three points each with Sierra Leone and Maldives having two.
