Sliema having four of their top players missing including their evergreen goalkeeper Luke Mallia, could not offer any serious opposition to the current leaders.

They did however manage to keep the score blank up to the 12th minute when after a fine dribble by the inimitable Josef Antonelli he made it easy for Kenneth Debattista to slot the ball home.

On the 24th Sliema won a short corner from which Steve Cachia saw his effort just going wide. From here on Rabat were all over their opponents and on the 29th it came as no surprise when Kenneth Debattista deflected a hit by Kevin Micallef to score his and Rabat’s goal number two.

Between the 30th and the 35th Rabat made the score 5 -0 with three quick goals (Antonelli and Jason Vella x 2) all scored off rebounds.

In the second half Rabat eased their pressure; this allowed Sliema to come more into the picture; however it was always Rabat who were creating scoring chances with the occasional surge forward by Sliema.

In the 45th minute Azzopardi in Rabat’s goal saved well off a Dylan Lentini effort and on the 49th Sliema were denied a penalty stroke when Keith Vella was shoved off the ball. Three minutes later it was Matthew Buhagiar, Rabat’s stopper who deflected the ball off the goal line with Azzopardi beaten.

Rabat had to wait till the 61st to score goal no 6 when from a well executed short corner move it was Jonathan Seychell who fired home.

Sliema could have scored a consolation but Dylan Lentini saw his push from the penalty spot saved by Azzopardi.

White Hart 1

This was a game of mixed fortunes, with White Hart doing all the running and on the other hand Young Stars notching the goals.

It took White Hart 10 minutes to open the score when from a rebound following a short corner action Anthony Roberts scored his first goal since he joined White Hart at the beginning of the league campaign.

White Hart opted to play Luke Borg Costanzi in the centre forward position but he was given little space to manoeuvre by Young Stars central defender Andrew Camilleri who came out on top whenever there was a one on one situation.

On the 28th Young Stars won two consecutive short corners and following an Edward Hughes foray, the ball was played towards Ivan Magro who had no difficulty in slamming the ball home.

The second half started on a bad note for White Hart when from a badly taken hit in, in their own half the ball was picked by Ivan Magro; he immediately passed to the unmarked Nathan Galea who, in turn, saw his effort at goal saved by Vassallo Agius only for Marvin Vella to pounce on the loose ball to put Young Stars in the lead.

On the 48th minute Young Stars increased their lead when following a short corner in White Hart’s favour, a fierce hit by Sandro Bartolo rebounded off the keeper’s pads, with the ball landing inside the White Hart half, this caught the White Hart defence with a five on three situation from which the Young Stars players made the most of it with Nathan Galea finishing off the move.

On the 66th Young Stars again capitalised from a similar situation when this time it was Marvin Vella to beat the outrushing Vassallo Agius with a sweet touch to the ball which went round the keeper to sail into an empty net, to make the final score read 4-1.
