The Prime Minister yesterday toured Valletta primary school where new computers have been installed, aiming to have one computer for every four students. Just days ago, Lawrence Gonzi, Information Technology Minister Austin Gatt and Education Minister Louis Galea launched the e-learning strategy.

The Valletta school today has broadband internet for all computers and a wireless system for teachers’ laptops. Dr and Mrs Gonzi were present at a class where a lesson was being given on an interactive board.

The school is one of three in the first phase of the strategy implementation. The others are Victoria primary school and the girls’ lyceum in Blata l-Bajda. Computers are also being installed in the kindergarten classes, and teachers are being given new laptops.

The three schools will be receiving the rest of the computers and laptops over the next few months. The government aims to have all schools equipped with new computers at the start of the next scholastic year.

All staff rooms will have wireless access to facilitate the work carried out by teachers. This means that wireless internet connections could be expanded in the future if the need arises.

Sponsorships and other assistance are being provided by leading companies, such as GO, Vodafone and Enemalta Corporation.
