The exemplary manner in which Dr Lawrence Gonzi executes his duties is commendable. He is the man in charge of a developing nation. He represents Malta and is proud to be one of us. He is the “politician” who wants to serve. His years as speaker of the house showed he means business, a politician to be trusted. No gimmicks but facts and figures to prove his point and service to us. Indeed he is a credible Prime Minister to be returned to office in this election. The electorate is rearing to go to confirm the Nationalist Party to govern once again.

I will highlight the achievements that have borne fruit to enable a the good standard of living we are experiencing as a result of the political climate and industrial peace. Political dialogue reaped benefits galore and the principle of solidarity enhanced everybody’s chances to live in peace.

Several ministries have performed well, others not so well. We are not perfect and human nature is what it is. However our Prime Minister has done a good job! Starting with health, the opening of the “state-of-the-art” Mater Dei Hospital injected new confidence among the people. Health centres and medical clinics work hand in hand to serve the public at large, performing sterling work. The medical profession works wonders at home, without the need to go overseas. Prime Minister Gonzi is the “real people’s Prime Minister” for yet other valuable assets, such as education and employment. Students feel at ease and content in a sound healthy environment. With the e116 million (Lm50 million) expansion at MCAST, Prime Minister Gonzi confirms he is the real people’s Prime Minister.

The Republic of Malta has solid foundations based on work. Employment guarantees a good standard of living for all our families. The numerous projects, foreign and local investment boost the Prime Minister’s ranking to number one. SmartCity, the major project continues to highlight his aim, to have good and well-paid jobs for our youngsters.

Social housing and pensions are both close to our Prime Minister’s heart. He is mainly concerned about couples to accommodate them. Several blocks are under construction to be distributed to those in real need. The Prime Minister, prior to the budget, proclaimed it would be a budget based on family needs. This promise was kept to meet this end.

Pensions’ reforms continue to be implemented in order to have decent, adequate and sustainable pensions. The reform which took place in January 2007, brings about parametric and fundamental changes. “The real people’s Prime Minister” should be returned to govern and steer a juvenile government to implement crucial changes in various sectors of the economy.

Finally, may I mention something about the environment. A lot has been done to improve the environment, notwithstanding the lack of cooperation from the opposition.

The Sant’ Antnin recycling plant is taking shape, 143 bring-in sites and five civic amenity sites to take bulky refuse to recycle have been made.

All this with assistance from the European Union funds and the hard work by the present administration headed by the real people’s Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi.

Within a month, a new chapter is opened in Maltese politics, to the well-being of our beloved Malta as a united nation.
