Five Maltese players were involved with their respective clubs in the Italian League.

Massimo Cremona, Mark Gauci and Joe Mifsud were playing in Serie A, while Samuel Bartolo and Derek Conti were in the Serie B.

Cremona, playing along with Italian giants of AS Perugia, had the best of the day as his team is currently second placed in the Serie A, just one point behind Pisa. Cremona played just four matches of the nine scheduled and his team won six games, got two draws and one loss to obtain a total of 20 points.

Mark Gauci, playing for Reggio Emilia, was in his first appearance this season for the Italians and he played seven of the nine matches scheduled. His team won six, drew one and lost two matches to gain 19 points and obtained a temporary third place in the standings.

Joseph Mifsud was also in his first appearance in the Serie A playing for the Sicilian team of AS Palermo. He played all his matches but being in a minor team, the Rosa Nero just managed one victory against Bologna to find themselves at the bottom of the table with just three points.

The Serie B also offered a though challenge for Samuel Bartolo and Derek Conti playing for CCT Roma. A good run has made the Italian capital’s side favourite to gain promotion to the Serie A.
