Opposition Leader Alfred Sant yesterday condemned Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi for immediately re-appointing a new Development Control Commission just a week before the general election and claimed that Dr Gonzi did it to push through applications for “friends.”

Dr Sant yesterday continued his campaign trail, this time stopping in Mellieha, St Paul’s Bay and Naxxar.

The opposition leader repeated claims he had made earlier in the afternoon in front of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and said if that Dr Gonzi was truly serious about removing corruption in Mepa, he would not have reappointed the DCC board so quickly.

He spoke about the Nationalist government lied about Maghtab. “He told us that it was no longer in use and yet trucks are still going in and the smells are still there – this government is lying about everything.”

However, he added, the PN’s biggest lie so far is its claim that a payment system was not going to be introduced for the public health sector. “Even though we produced documents proving that they were, the prime minister is still denying it,” said Dr Sant while challenging Prime Minister Gonzi to file another libel suit.
