After just nine minutes the Fgura keeper Ranier Farrugia brought off a fine save to deny Ayrton Buhagiar and at the other end Fgura were denied by Kevin Formosa off an attempt by Claudio Pace.

On another occasion Fgura were again close through Clayton Garzia with Fgura creating the best opportunity through Ayrton Buhagiar whose direct free-kick was excellently saved by Farrugia.

On 40 minutes Fgura took the lead with Clayton Garzia’s low cross from the left flank finding Claudio Pace in front of goal and he shot in from close-range.

Mdina assumed the initiative early on in the second-half and after hitting the post through substitute Nicky Micallef, they were then denied by the Fgura custodian Farrugia who saved a penalty taken by Ayrton Buhagiar.

The penalty had been given by referee Scriha when Mdina’s striker Matthew Francalanza was floored by Rodney Galea in the penalty area. In the 64th minute Fgura were close through Clayton Garzia and four minutes later the same player hit the crossbar with a close-range shot.

Fgura continued to create the better opportunities and in the 84th minute a long-range shot by Daniel Said was saved with difficulty by Formosa.

A minute from time Mdina had a shot by Roderick Schembri which just missed the target.

Zejtun-Mtarfa 3-4

Mtarfa surprised a depleted Corinthians side with two goals in the opening two minutes scored by Mario Stivala and Richard Attard.

Zejtun replied through shots by Godwin Mifsud and Andy Portelli which finished just wide as Mtarfa were close through a Joe Farrugia free-kick which was well saved by Fenech.

The Zejtun keeper was again on hand to block a point blank shot by Josef Briffa with the Corinthians missing a sitter through Steve Shead.

In the 42nd minute the Mtarfa keeper brought off an excellent save off an Andy Portelli volley but a minute later they pulled back a goal through Glenn Azzopardi Busuttil. Mtarfa came back through Mario Stivala whose shot was saved by Fenech.

In the opening minutes of the second period Zejtun were twice close through Andy Portelli and Steve Shead with Mtarfa replying through a shot by Brian Zammit which was cleared off the goal line.

On the hour Zejtun were back on level terms through Alex Farrugia and a minute later Godwin Mifsud gave the Corinthians a 3-2 lead from the penalty spot, a penalty given for a foul on Jesmar Abela.

Mtarfa replied through a close-range effort by Jean Pierre Ciantar which just missed the target and they also wasted a clear goal scoring opportunity through Johan Briffa.

Mtarfa made it three-all in the 87th minute as Johan Briffa headed in past Fenech and a minute from time they grabbed the winning goal through a rising shot by Richard Attard following a personal effort.

Qrendi-Siggiewi 1-1

Siggiewi were close early on through a point blank shot by Josef Micallef which missed the goal by a few inches.

In the 18th minute Qormi’s Alex Mangion missed a good opportunity from a very favourable position while a few minutes later it was Jason Camilleri who failed to net in for Siggiewi.

However, Siggiewi took the lead in the 25th minute when Kim Buhagiar took advantage from an Alex Abdilla mistake and netted in. Qrendi replied in the 44th minute when Saviour Sacco equalised after taking full advantage from a Martin Briffa cross.

A few minutes into the second half, Qrendi were denied by Camilleri who made a good save on a Joseph Mercieca shot. Qrendi kept on the pressure and went close twice in the 72nd minute through a Josef Mansueto free-kick and in the 83rd minute from Martin Briffa shot which hit the cross bar.

Siggiewi’s reaction came late in the match through shots by Kim Buhagiar and Eman Ciappara which both went wide.

Gzira-Pembroke 1-2

The first opportunity of the match arrived after 20 minutes through a Jeffery Fenech shot which was partially saved by Keith Camilleri.

Pembroke took the lead in the 23rd minute when Steven Micallef took full advantage from an excellent cross by Jeffrey Fenech and netted in from close range.

In the 31st minute a Steve Micallef shot was partially saved by Keith Camilleri with the ball subsequently hitting the post.

Gzira’s only opportunity arrived in the 45th minute when Justine Felice headed in a Thane Micallef cross but the ball went wide. A few minutes into the second half, Gzira went close once again but Gordon Mizzi’s shot was saved by Roderick Debattista.

In the 51st minute Aldrin Muscat hit the cross bar from a well given free-kick while it was then Debattista who denied Gzira with an excellent save in the 69th minute. Gzira continued to dominate the match and finally got a well deserved equaliser when Keith Bonello headed in a corner from Kevin Vella.

However, Gzira’s joy was shortlived as Pembroke took the lead once again two minutes later through a Jeffrey Fenech shot.

Gzira where then denied another equalizer by Roderick Debattista who turned into corner a Justin Felice shot.
