The race is now on. The two main leaders are gearing up taking every opportunity to express how they would run the country if either of them is elected as Prime Minister. One is pushing on his achievements in the past four years, which can be rated as very big achievements by any frame of mind. The other is saying that the outgoing government was one composed of some incompetent ministers, that a change in government is overdue and a new beginning would solve the problems the people are waiting for.

Dr Gonzi has proved himself to be a good leader and an achiever having seen the economic turnaround, the Eurozone admission, the rate of employment, the strengthening of the economy and above all he is an untouchable, honest person and gentleman belonging to the people. Taking everything in his past track record he had success in all levels personally, professionally and politically.

The other competitor and leader of the outgoing opposition has not been seen as Prime Minister except for a very short period and so is not fair to assess his performance as if he never had a full term. However, some questions may give more light and help to make a rapid assessment. Do we still believe that the European Union Referendum in 2003 was won by the partnership proposal? Do we still believe that only Lm1.5 million are coming from the European Union? Do we still believe that the government elected in 1998 was illegitimate?

Having such a scenario regarding the two competitors, it is inconceivable to change the driver with a good pair of hands in the middle of the race.
