It was an interesting weekend at the University Sports Complex after three emotional games.

D-Hs beat a depleted De La Salle to mathematically clinch the Under 16 league title.

Though the winning side controlled the game all through its course, it was La Salle’s team who was the most resilient.

As the game started La Salle were the better team with strong aggressive defence and good transmission of the ball in attack breaking D-Hs defence on the left side. In the beginning D-Hs fumbled the ball a bit but they could use Peter Naudi and Lyden Zerafa much more during the game as La Salle played 6/0 defence.

With a seven-goal disadvantage, De La Salle came out more aggressive in the second half but as D-Hs settled in their defence, the former were finding it harder to break and D-Hs could easily go out on fast breaks to secure the game 13-22.

In the senior league La Salle AMC faced their rivals Aloysians Prominent with the thought that a win would completely dent Aloysians’ hope to recover their lost ground in the league while for Prominent only a win could do.

It was a close game in which Aloysians started well taking a three-goal lead early in the game. La Salle seemed a bit lost with this initial fury of their opponents but half way through the first half they caught up with their opponents and managed to keep the pace.

The game, full of emotions from one side and another, dragged on with both team locked within a goal from each other. With less than a minute left for the final whistle, Aloysians drew the game on 18-18. Knowing that a win or draw was the same for them, Aloysians went out defending man-to-man only to concede a goal in the last second.

The game between Kavallieri Shireburn and D6 Riu Seabank continued on the same tense level. The game was not as fast as the first one but the game was enjoyable with D6 clearly showing their intent to take their first league win.

The game was balanced with Kavallieri being the strongest team on the starting whistle. Few minutes into the game D6 managed to level and the teams continued to alter the 2 goal advantage between them.

D6 entered the dressing room with a two-goal deficit in the half time but as the game resumed they made a 4-0 run to go two goals up. In this moment D6 did not capitalise their chances and Kavallieri went in advantage. Kavallieri did a mistake to lose an opportunity to close the game in the 20th minute of the second half when, with a man up situation, they lost their two-goal.

The last 10 minutes continued to be level with the teams tense not to loose their minimal advantage rather than to create scoring opportunities with the game ending 21-21.
