I am a resident of Triq Katerina Vitale in Xemxija, which is in a terrible state. Road works started during the month of November and four months later we residents have seen no progress whatsoever.

In fact, it is not only devastating for us to go out, park or whatever else, in our road, but it is also threatening the residents’ health and safety. For instance, four weeks ago, due to the fact that no lights had been put up and there were no covers on the open trenches, my daughter fell into one part waist deep.

This not only damaged my daughter’s clothes and the things she was carrying, but also caused her severe stress, considering that the incident could have been serious. That same night, another person fell into the same trench!

After reporting all this to the Transport Authority, they immediately took the necessary action by illuminating and covering the trenches.

We just cannot understand why workers do not lay emphasis on health and safety and do not take the necessary precautions, waiting instead for accidents like these to happen before taking action.

We desperately need the works in our road to be completed. We feel that the people in charge, workers and all, are taking us for a ride, since we have made many complaints and the situation remains unchanged. At the moment, we have an open trench in the middle of the road where we even see rats rummaging!!

Surely we deserve better!
