Over the weekend Marsa CC took on Staffordshire University CC who were on their second tour in consecutive years,

On Saturday Staffordshire won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sam Dhandapani and Joy Ghoseroy opened the batting both had a good start but were out for 18 runs and 27 runs respectively.

After that only John Grima (25 runs) Sagar Krishna (ten runs) and Sarfraz Ali (11 runs not out), made it too double figures. The Marsa side only managed to total 147 runs from their allotted overs. For Staffordshire G.Singh was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets.

The visitors managed to score 137 runs in 24 overs before the rain stopped play. G.Singh opening the batting scored 59 runs before being caught. N.Pryce also scored 59 runs. The game was awarded to the visitors.

On Sunday the scheduled one day game of 40 overs was changed to two 20 over games.

In the first of the game Marsa won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Marsa bowlers were on fire with Andrew Naudi and Gordon Hewitt taking two wickets each while Ronnie Sacco tore through the lower order batsmen taking an impressive five wickets from five overs bowled.

The visitors were bowled out for a mere 44 runs. In reply Marsa only lost one wicket, that of Tim Edwards who had scored nine runs in an opening partnership of 40 runs with Sunny Krishna who remained unbeaten on 20 runs. Nadeem Ashraf sealed the game for Marsa by hitting a huge six which went over the pavilion. For the Visitor M.Reid was the only wicket taker.

In the second game Marsa won the toss and elected to bat first. Again Marsa only lost one wicket, this time that of Javed Shah who scored 42 runs from 35 balls faced and was involved in a 105 run partnership with Mike Caruana. Caruana remained till the end scoring 74 runs including12 fours.

Nadeem Ashraf blasted 38 runs from 16 balls which included four sixes and two fours. The Marsa team totalled 171 runs from their allotted overs. M.Richards was the wicket taker for the visitors.

In reply the opening bats put their team in a good position with R.Muaf scoring 44 runs and D.Leushab scoring 30 runs. G.Singh scored 17 runs but the visitors could only manage 117 runs from their allotted overs. For Marsa Nadeem Ashraf was the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets. Marsa won the series two to one.

Next Saturday the nursery/academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
