The police are holding a 38-year-old man from Naxxar to help in investigations over the possession of explosive material in a field in Santa Marija Street, Naxxar.

The police said that after the explosion that killed two people in Naxxar on Wednesday, it received several anonymous tip-offs in connection with illegal storage of fireworks.

The police investigated all tip-offs, and found explosive material in the Naxxar field. Members of the Explosives Ordinance Disposals of the Armed Forces of Malta removed the explosives.

The police appealed to the public to call on 119 if there are suspicions that explosive material is being stored illegally.
