A Statesman

Lawrence Gonzi deserves a round of applause for fighting a one-man battle against all the odds and give the Nationalist Party a deserved win.

Most of his ministers failed to perform, others were involved in murky situations, and yet it would have been a pity if the PN lost the election. Over the past years, Dr Gonzi as Prime Minister led Malta to a healthy economic situation, and we can only move forward from here.

The PN has the best plans for the country, and it showed during the election campaign. These plans were put forward to the people only by Dr Gonzi. He was backed by the party’s organisation machine, but he was the front-man.

Just as much as he would have been blamed if the PN lost, Dr Gonzi deserves the credit for taking the PN on to an unprecedented third electoral victory in a row.

He has worked hard during his first four years as prime minister, and now Malta can look forward to a legislature during which Dr Gonzi will consolidate on his successes and work to correct what went wrong.

Malta is, indeed, in a safe pair of hands.
