Before yesterday’s Premier League match between Valletta and Hamrun Spartans, a minute silence was observed, to pay tribute to the former Zurrieq, Valletta and Malta international player Mario Schembri.

Schembri, one of the stalwarts of the Zurrieq team of the 80’s, then playing in the Premier League, passed away yesterday, aged 51.

Schembri weas considered as one of the most talented products from Zurrieq before his short spell with Valletta in 1987.

Mario Schembri also made three appearnaces for Malta national team between 1986 and 1987.
