A 29-year-old man pleaded guilty yesterday to forging a number of Bank of Valletta cheques on 29 February.

Neville Cassar, from Valletta, pleaded guilty to defrauding the bank as well as using the cheques to buy goods from Warp Speed Technology Ltd., Hi Brand Ltd (Sunlab Shops) u Marcomp Ltd. (PC Zone).

He also pleaded guilty to relapsing and breaching the conditions of an operative suspended sentence.

Prosecution and defence agreed that Cassar should be jailed until he undertakes a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna informed the court, which was presided over by magistrate Antonio Vella, that Cassar returned all the goods he bought in mint condition.

The court ordered Cassar to undergo the programme or else face up to five years in jail.
