Shooting: Clive Farrugia Wins Keepers Skeet Trophy with 140

Junior skeet shooter Clive Farrugia (photo) seems to be on the right track improving his scores in this weekend’s competition organised by The Malta Shooting Sport Federation in Bidnija for The Keepers Trophy.

Clive Farrugia started his first round with a straight of 25 out of 25 and 22,23,22,24 for a total of 116 out of 125. He then entered the barrage final with a lead of 7 clays on the next in line to smash another 24 out of 25 for a total of 140.

140 out of 150 is a remarkable score for Skeet shooting in Bidnija especially when it is coming from a Junior Skeet shooter like Clive at such a tender age of 16.

Darren Vella was second with 130 (109+21) followed by Joe Muscat with 119 (98+21), Jason Sciberras with 116 (98+18) and Elenio Mifsud with 114 (98+16)

Class A first Clive Farrugia 46/50, second Darren Vella 41/50

Class B first Noel Attard 37/50, second Joe Borg 37/50

On Saturday, air-rifle and air-pistol shooting competitions were organised at Bidnija Indoor Airgun Ranges by MARPSC.

In the Olympic air-rifle event, Lawrence Darmanin was again the winner with a score of 628.5 points and closely followed by one of the promising young shooters - Charlo Chircop, who came in second place with a score of 617.4 points. Annabel Borg finished in 3rd place with 595.3 points.

In the Olympic Air-Pistol event there was no catching up Ray Cacciattolo who obtained the highest score of the afternoon with a total score of 644.6 points. In second place was the foreign coach Usama Mustafa with 588.1 points, while in 3rd place was Martin Grech with a good final score of 579.3 points.

Meanwhile in th ‘Open’ Air-Rifle event the upcoming Wil Smith was in an unbeatable form to win this event with a good score of 518.5 points over newcomer Odin Sammut who in his first ever shooting competition obtained a creditable score of 403.6 points.

Mr Gino Galea officiated all the competitions and was ably assisted by Bernardette Chircop and Joe Smith.

These Shooting Competitions were sponsored by Mr Alex Debono of Sports Experience of Attard who donated the medals which were later distributed to all the winners.
