The Corinthia Hotel Budapest (Grand Hotel Royal) has been awarded the first trophy established by the Robert Burns International Foundation, to give recognition to organisations which support its efforts.
The first Ferenc Puskas trophy was awarded to Adrian Ellis, Corinthia Hotel Budapest general manager, by the foundation’s patron, Manchester United FC manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. The presentation was made on the football pitch at Old Trafford, in front of 75,000 fans.
The Robert Burns International Foundation has been established in Hungary for the last 10 years, with the aim of raising funds to help sick and underprivileged children in Hungary and Central Europe. The Corinthia Hotel Budapest has supported their initiatives over the years by hosting the Burns Night each year as part of the fund-raising activities.
The Corinthia said the trophy will be placed in the lobby of the hotel, with pictures and an appropriate plaque.
The Burns Night traditionally attracts around 300 guests and has been one of the most successful ways of raising funds, attracting donations from charity and auction prizes along with considerable sponsorship.
