The results of the 2008 general election clearly confirm that, once again, the vote of the less intelligent – though manipulated – electorate has emerged victorious, though to a much lesser extent than in past elections. This in itself is a positive outcome.
The more intelligent members of the electorate should not be disheartened: though apparently in the doldrums of minority, this in reality is not the case.
The insignificant lead of GONZIPN (by the PN’s own declaration) explicitly demonstrates that the conglomeration of the votes obtained hail from ignorant, tribal voting of human chunks, voting by dictation not by personal adjudication: similarly goes re MLP voting.
The intelligent voters are those who voted for the smaller parties, emphasising the ever-increasing necessity of a definitive change in Maltese political culture. So please Alternattiva Demokratika, Azzjoni Nazzjonali, and other smaller fry (like my ALD), let us not give up. It took the Catholic Church over 400 years to acquiesce to the greatness of Galileo; now they are doing the same to Luther. In time the Maltese will grow up, and with them the acceptance that manipulative politics is not conducive to good governance!
