A drug addict, Antoine Sciberras, 28 of Zabbar, was sentenced to two and a half years in jail, after pleading guilty to various charges brought against him.

He was accused, in front of Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, of stealing a pair of speakers from a car, receiving stolen goods during the operative term of a suspended sentence and damaging a stolen car – from which he also stole, during the operative term of a suspended sentence handed down on 18 May, 2005 by Magistrate Demicoli.

Defence lawyer Ian Farrugia informed the court that his client had a drug problem, which led the court to ask the prison director to ensure that Sciberras be given the necessary assistance.

Senior Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.
