A Briton who resides in Malta was accused, before Magistrate Antonio Mizzi yesterday, of seriously injuring his mother-in-law, Marilyn Patricia Mifsud of Attard, and of slightly injuring her husband, Edwin Mifsud.

Ricki Goldsberough, 30 of London, was accused of assaulting his mother-in-law and her husband without the intention of killing them on 16 March, between 5.30 and 5.45pm. He was also accused of breaking the public peace.

Defence lawyer Lorraine Schembri Orland said that all her client had done was to go to and see his daughter, during which time an argument developed and his in-laws assaulted him, though they knew he had a serious medical condition.

The Briton was granted provisional liberty on a personal guarantee of e10,000.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Sandra Zammit.
