I agree with Claudio Laferla (TMID, 12 March) in what he wrote with regard to the article Teaching English through storytelling (TMID, 8 March). I hope I was not misunderstood. My only aim in writing books and storytelling is to share my love of the written word with anyone who will listen.

I have read your mentioned literature. However, I prefer books like Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to our children will change their lives forever by Mem Fox and The Read Aloud handbook by Jim Trelease.

Yes, I would not want storytelling to become a new 'school subject' or course as I have seen done locally. I must stress that a good storyteller still needs some talent in reciting a book for it to be interesting to children.

For me the bottom line for the article was the need to push storytelling to parents who are the first educators of their own children. We shouldn't squabble about a mere detail between us. There is enough to do towards helping children to learn to love reading books
