Easter celebrations reached a peak yesterday morning, particularly with processions marking the resurrection of Christ in a number of towns and villages.

As has become customary over the years, the weeks leading to Easter Sunday were particularly characterised by numerous religious displays, pageants, processions and Holy Week functions.

For many believers yesterday marked the end of the period of Lenten sacrifice as they indulged in the traditional figolli, chocolates and all sorts of other Easter treats.

And non-religious celebrations of Easter continue today, as children continue to enjoy their Easter holidays and any Easter eggs that may possibly be left over.

The St Paul’s Bay Bars and Restaurants Association, in collaboration with the St Paul’s Bay local council and the Malta Tourism Authority, is organising an Easter Monday Parade in Bugibba and Qawra.

The parade leaves for Bugibba Square from Qawra Palace Hotel at 5pm and will include the participation of the St Paul’s Bay Band, grotesque Disney characters, stilt walkers, Venetian animators and a number of dance groups.

Attractions in Bugibba Square include balloon modelling, face paining, a bouncy castle, a merry go-round and a train for children (all free of charge). Children will also be able to participate in competitions and win Easter prizes.

A three-hour show will then begin at 6.30pm; performers include several dancers and singers, while Claudia Faniello and Morena will be special guests.
