JPO Should not be glorified

I agree wholeheartedly with Daphne Caruana Galizia. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando should not be forced to resign after being elected in parliament now that he’s there, however with all the facts that were presented he should not have been allowed to contest the election at all. Albeit these revelations were presented a bit too late in the campaign for the PN to react.

The prime minister did the right thing to exclude him from his cabinet while there is an investigation going on. Should this investigation prove that Jeffrey used his position to obtain illegal permits at Mistra he should do the honorable thing and resign, as well as publicly apologise to his constituents for misleading them. This is how its done in other civilised countries. We should learn from them.

Like I said I do agree with Ms Daphne’s points, however she has no reason to glorify him the way she did. She basically turned him into a hero. In politics one has to be and portray him/herself as transparent as possible. Jeffrey certainly did not. Following Dr Alfred Sant around to extract some sort of justification is not becoming of a politician. Scores like that are settled in court, however what Ms Daphne and many other nationalist supporters did was vote for him to spite Labour. Not really an educated choice, but one made (I am sorry to say) by narrow minded people as there were other nationalist candidates in the district that could have been voted for.
