The Malta Canoe Federation is kicking off spring with its annual event, the Manoel Island Race, which will be held on Sunday 30 March. The races will start from the Strand in Sliema from 7am onwards trough to around 11am.
There will be three main races, a 10K race consisting of three laps for the more serious paddlers, a 3K single lap fun race for all comers and a first for this event, a 200m sprint. All events will be split according to boat classification (elite, sea kayak and doubles) as well as according to category (male, female and under 18).
Over the years the Manoel Island Race has drawn international interest with competitors hailing from Italy and Germany providing good competition for local athletes. It is anticipated that this year’s event will continue to attract participants from clubs across Europe.
There are a limited number of kayaks available for which must be reserved by 22 March. Obviously other canoeists, scouts and members of the public can use their own canoes if they have them and would be most welcome. Application forms in either case are available on www.maltacanoefederation.org
