Motor-Racing – Formula 1: McLaren Club (Malta) Celebrates 10th anniversary

Malta Independent Saturday, 29 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The McLaren F1 Club (Malta) is ten years old. To mark this special occasion the club will hold a series of events throughout this year.

The club was established in December 1998 when a small group of McLaren supporters answered the call of several fast lane enthusiasts and invited them to meet them at the Civil Service Club in Valletta.

The overwhelming response led Ms Penelope Ciangura, Simon D’Agostino, Ian Ciangura and Joseph Baron to found a very active Formula One club, which since its inception has never looked back.

Members of the club and friends gather at The Halland and watch live on the big screen all the Grand Prix races that are held throughout the F1 season. Other activities in the club’s calendar of events include karting competitions, social gatherings and a tour to the British Grand Prix. A four-page newsletter is published before every race, while the official annual magazine Pitpass is distributed free to all members and formula one enthusiasts.

The McLaren F1 Club (Malta) owes its success to the numerous loyal club members and the sponsorships of Auto Sales Ltd and Vodafone (Malta) Ltd. The club officials thanked Mrs Bernadette Bonnici, Director of Auto Sales Ltd and Ms Denise Ross, Brand Executive of Vodafone (Malta) Ltd for their continuous support.

The club’s first newsletter for the 2008 F1 season, which was published recently, contains information about the first two Grand Prixs, namely that of Australia and Malaysia. It also includes photos of the MP4-23 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes racing car and of drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen.

More information about the club can be obtained by writing to McLaren F1 Club (Malta) P.O. Box 76, Paola PLA 1000 or by email: [email protected]
