La Salle Vitality won a close game against a motivated Ta’ Xbiex Kavalieri ASC side 17-16. It was the losing side who came out stronger and La Salle seemed to have no answer in the first 10 minutes.
La Salle seemed unfocused in the beginning, leaving big gaps for Daniela Bezzina on the right back. As time passed the winning side seeemed to settle more but could not outrun Kavallieri.
La Salle found had a problem with Kavallieri turning the ball well in attack and controlling the pace of the game and making sure to keep La Salle’s Yvonne Barry at bay.
On the other hand, La Salle seemed to do better in set attack and though the game was still locked on 10-10 they seemed calmer than the first half.
With a few minutes to the end, La Salle tightly defended Natasha Celic but with a goal advantage they were doing important turnovers in attack. Kavallieri tried to take advantage of their opponents’ mistakes but did not manage to score in the final minutes thus losing the game by only one goal.
In the other game Aloysians Express needed a win to secure the league mathematically. The victory was secured against a disoriented D6 Living Well HCM.
D6 fought really hard in the beginning and were organised in defence but all plans were dismantled after 25 minutes into the game.
Both teams started well though D6 were a bit static in attack. The defensive ends of both teams were good and the game was tied on 4-3 for Aloysians until a three goal break from Mathilde Friggieri opened a four-goal lead for Aloysians that dented D6’s spirit.
Going into the first half break with a six-goal advantage was enough for Aloysians who kept on controlling the game in the second half with D6 trying to decrease the deficit but only managed to leave more spaces at the back for their opponents who concluded the game with a win of 21-12 in their favour.
