A Tight corner

Malta Independent Thursday, 3 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Now that the election is history and now that Dr Alfred Sant has bowed out of the scene, one was expecting the double-barreled blue-blooded Daphne to oil her guns and put them to rest and allow herself the long awaited rest we were all expecting. But nay, she is at it all over again.

Dearest Daphne, what is it with you other than a perfect hatred for all that is red or coming from the Labour camp? Do you not think that your few bored readers would have preferred to read about the dirty game your beloved party played in order to conceal the black spot Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, or maybe of how much the present premier and his pitiful ally knew of this story before 6 March? Do you not think that JPO could have easily been branded Gonzipn’s poodle too?

He was, beyond any doubt, the anointed one for our ever-smiling premier. Why do you not delve in asking your beloved premier what his present feelings are about JPO? Or maybe you might want to ask them to publish their diplomas. I have no doubt that both JPO and your premier carry titles of excellence but I could think of a few others to add on myself, and rest assured I am not alone.

It would be interesting if you were to go around JPO’s electoral districts and find out the feelings of those who were deceived and gave him their first preference on 8 March. I suggest you spend some time concocting a potion for your dear smiling premier to help him out of this very tight corner he has maneuvered himself into, rather than poking into other people’s business. I am sure he will take up any advice that goes his way in this critical moment of his yet unborn government.

So now, we criticise Dr Sant and Dr Joseph Muscat for sporting their academic portfolio… fine. One thing is quite evident though, I never saw either of the two being rude in front of TV cameras, and never did I see them approve anything of the sort. I trust you will find it hard to claim the same credits. I find it really hard to believe that a woman of your pretended standing can think she is some kind of genius to enlighten us all. You must know that your views are quite singular and are hardly shared by anyone. The comments being made about the prospective contestants for the Labour Party helm, from normal people who belong to your party but have no hidden (hardly) agendas like you, are very positive ones.

Your words are meant to hurt, and injure us, but mostly to provoke us. But rest assured, we know a scum-stirrer when we see one and we know it by name.
