Cricket: Marsa CC Meet Brooklands CC

Over the weekend Marsa CC played against returning touring team Brooklands C.C who were on there third tour in five years.

On Saturday Marsa won the toss and elected to bowl first. J.Pearson opened the batting for the visitors and did a splendid job scoring seventy eight runs including six fours and a six.

His opening partner E.Woodage made 29 runs before being run out. P.Derbyshire made thirteen runs before being Sarfraz Ali’s first victim, Ali continued to cause mayhem to the batsmen taking A.J.Harts wicket who made 29 runs, P.Clowes eight runs and S.Johnson nine runs. The visitors managed to score 200 runs and were bowled out with two balls remaining in the innings. Mike Caruana managed to take two wickets and Chris Naudi one.

In reply John Grima and Mark G. Sacco opened the batting. Sacco was given caught behind by the umpire and was not happy about it. Grima went on to make 15 runs before being caught.

Tim Edwards was going along steadily before he was hit on his arm by a rising ball and retired hurt.He had scored 13 runs. Sam Dhandapani managed seven runs before being stumped.

Mike Caruana scored 20 runs before being very well caught by the keeper. Chris Naudi was a shining light in the innings. He kept the home sides hope alive scoring a brilliant eighty two runs from 58 balls which included 12 fours and a six. He was well supported by Gordon Hewitt who scored 12 runs. Unfortunately for Marsa they where bowled out for 177 runs, 23 runs short of there target. For the visitors E.Woodage followed up on his runs with four wickets. Brooklands went one up in the series.

On Sunday only Chris Naudi had played on the previous day. Marsa won the toss and elected to bowl again. Again J.Pearson batted well and made 64 runs. P.Clowes scored 32 runs and six other batsmen made it to double figures. For Marsa Nadeem Ashraf and Chris Naudi were the main wicket takers taking two wickets each.

In reply the run chase was not as exciting as the previous day with the home side being bowled out for 120 runs. Joy Ghoseroy top scored with 31 runs, while Justin Brooke (18 runs) and Sunny Krishna (15 runs) were the main contributors. M.Roberts and J.Bagshaw were the main wicket takers for Brooklands taking two wickets each. Brooklands win series two to nil.

Next Saturday Marsa C.C take on new touring team Beeston & Toton C.C at 10.30am at the Marsa Cricket Ground.

The academy/nursery will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
