Karting With passion at Skolasport

Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Around 78 young and aspiring drivers head for Ta’ Qali on Saturday mornings to attend go-karting sessions, another sport discipline offered by Skolasport, organised by Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, sponsored by Kelloggs and held in collaboration with Badger Company Limited.

Youngsters in search of a non-mainstream sport but fond and passionate about driving may attend these sessions. Boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 16 years are grouped into beginners and intermediate level drivers.

Edwin Gauci, general manager of Badger Company Limited said: “Karting is fun and a relatively safe sport which leaves youngsters with a thrill and on their toes. It makes them feel as though they are driving the greatest car ever.”

During these training sessions participants are given the necessary information, techniques and tactics to go karting with the right knowledge and verve. Specific techniques include racing line, cornering, braking, overtaking, and defending. These are initially tackled with a limited speed and eventually lead into the specialisation of timing and speed qualities.

When a driver excels and demonstrates a passion for this sport discipline, he or she is then encouraged to participate in national competitions and championships thus raising the required commitment and investment.

Kellogg’s sponsors Skolasport and its initiatives to implement its philosophy and encourage young people to lead a healthy and active life style.
