Lawn Bowls: Great Start for Parnis at World Cup championship

Malta’s Shaun Parnis had a great start competing among bowlers from 20 nations in the 2008 World Cup Championship being held under the auspices of World Bowls during the period 8-18 April, at Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club, Illawara, N.S.W., Australia.

Malta has been drawn in Section 2 together with Guernsey, Hong Kong China, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norfolk Island and Portugal.

Parnis earned the position to represent Malta after having beaten international Frank Vella in the final for selection.

On the first day, Malta played Japan in the morning, winning both sets, 15-4 13-4 and in the afternoon played against highly rated Ian Merriem of Guernsey, drawing the first set 11-11 and convincingly winning the second 13-6.

At the end of the day, Malta finished on top in its Section, followed by Israel and Malaysia respectively.
