I think that the best way that the Nationalist Party could show its recognition for the sterling work carried out by Louis Galea is to appoint him as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and possibly follow it up by making him President of the Republic when the term of office of Eddie Fenech Adami expires next year.
Dr Galea has been of great service to both the PN and the country, and it is a big surprise to me that he was not re-elected. As Education Minister, he was responsible for the ongoing reform of a sector that needs constant attention and nurturing. He was also a minister who, during the last legislature, was never involved in any political controversy that could have tarnished his name and that of his party.
I trust that the PN will give him what he deserves. It would be a great pity if the country loses the services of such an experienced man so abruptly.
