Week thirteen of the Middlesea Valletta Life National League at the SuperBowl saw the experienced Ramis side move up to third place thanks to their 0 - 8 hammering of PharmaVet, who stay in the second relegation spot.
Leaders Fina First and challengers Aercomms both picked up 8 - 0 wins against Globalair Travel and Inlusion respectively to drift further ahead of the field, while in other matches there was a valuable 2 - 6 win against HSBC for Turu’s Knights, and the match between bottom side The Clan and fourth placed Royal shock ended all-square.
Fina stay eight points ahead at the top after their 8 - 0 thrashing of Globalair Travel this week, the latter dropping two spots to fifth with the defeat. Fina opened the scoring with a 788 - 735 game one win, and then made it 4 - 0 thanks to a one-sided 857 - 745 victory in the second of the series. Game three was closer, the defending champions clinching it 744 - 704 to comlete the rout. Sue Abela (Fina First), 680, Bowler of the Week. Neil Sullivan (Globalair Travel), 566.
Aercomms stay eighth behind with their solid 8 - 0 win over Inlusion, but are now a whole sixteen points ahead of third place. Aercomms were rarely troubled by their opponents, the opening 763 - 719 result proving the closest of the set. Aercomms soared to a huge 834 - 665 win in game two, and the final 776 - 703 game three win was the cherry on their victory cake. Ray Falzon Reale (Aercomms), 630. Dean Micallef (Inlusion), 530.
Ramis picked up their own 100 per cent victory against troubled PharmaVet in week thirteen, taking advantage of Globalair's heavy defeat to replace them in third place, moving up from fifth. PharmaVet made Ramis work for all eight points in what was rather a scrappy match, Ramis taking game one 706 - 729 for a shaky lead. Game two was only marginally better but still could have gone either way, ending 744 - 768, and game three was the lowest of the series, falling to Ramis 643 - 685. Benny Hili (Ramis), 584. Danial Swift (PharmaVet), 624.
Turu’s Knights made another step closer to survival with their 2 - 6 win over HSBC this week, the latter still hovering precariously above the drop-zone. HSBC opened the scoring with a good 834 - 718 win in game one, but the Knights turned the tables in game two, winning it 716 - 781 to make it 2 - 2.
Victory was up for grabs as the deciding third game rolled off, and Turu’s Knights made sure of the match with a good 724 - 808 result, taking the series by 33 pins (2274 - 2307). Philippe Vancell (Turu’s Knights), 590. Leli Baldacchino (HSNC), 636, Bowler of the week.
The Clan can almost give up any last hope of survival, in spite of picking up four points in a tie with Royal Shock in week thirteen. Royal Shock drew first blood with a close 712 - 731 win in the opener, but then The Clan came back with a great 805 - 720 win in game two to level the match, and give them an all important pinfall advantage after two. Royal Shock took the extremely tight third game 709 - 711, handing their opponents the series points for the draw (2226 - 2172). David Fenech (Royal Shock), 540. James Vassallo (The Clan), 573.
