St Andrews earned the right to play in the Semi Final tie against the winner of the Quarter Final between Valletta and Marsaxlokk. The game was played at a very fast pace and was watched by a sizeable crowd at St Aloysius ground.
The Saints held the upper -hand during the normal time and also during extra time.
A free kick shot by Andrew Amato was cleared by a Stripes defender.
Birkirkara then created two actions between the 5th and 7th minutes: Lee Borg served Rowen Muscat with a through ball and Saints keeper Gianni Fino saved his shot from outside the area and Fino was in action again saving a header by Andreas Galea following a free kick shot by Christian Gatt.
The reaction by St Andrew was a header by Glenn Fenech which finished slightly out after a flag kick by Alan Calleja and after Calleja was fouled on the left flank Stripes keeper Christian Francica saved the free saved the free kick shot by Andrew Amato, at the other end, a corner kick taken by Gatt created havoc in the Saints area with the ball being cleared with difficulty, and the last two actions before the break came from St Andrew as Thomas Naudi served Edward Grima with a through ball but Francica saved his shot from outside the area and after Naudi was fouled on th left flank the ball was cleared with difficulty from the kick shot by Amato.
After a flag kick by Gatt, Muscat drove over the Saints bar from inside the area, a Stripes defender then cleared the ball away after a free kick shot by Amato.
In the 53rd minute Matthew Fenech should have opened the score for St Andrew but he drove out from two metres with only Francica to beat after a perfect through pass by Nicky Vella Petroni, and a minute later they came close again to break the deadlock when the ball was partially cleared after a free kick shot by Amato and Francica saved to a corner from the rebound shot by Vella Petroni.
Birkirkara came very close in the 58th minute as Galea served Gatt with a through ball in the area but a defender cleared his shot to a corner which was taken by Gatt and from Muscat's header Fino saved to another corner.
Francica neutralised the ball in two attemnts after a cross from the right by Grima after a Vella Petroni through ball and at the other end, Glenn Fenech handled the ball outside the area and Fino turned the ball to a corner from the free kick shot by Galea. As the score sheet was still blank after normal extra time had to be played.
There were only four actions worthy of note during the twenty minutes of extra time. Diansand Brinct received the ball from a long drop kick by Francica and after entering the area he missed the upright with his shot and Fino saved a shot from outside the area by Matthew Cassar after a through ball by subsitute Massimo Chircop.
Alan Calleja served substitute Shawn Decesare with a through ball but Francica saved his shot from outside the area and afer a flag kick by Amato a Stripes defender headed the ball away.
St Andrews managed to score all th five penalty kicks. The scorers were Vella Petroni, Amato, Calleja, Shawn Decesare and Kurt Galea, while for Birkirkara Galea, Muscat and Brincat scored and Matthew Cassar drove over the bar.
