This Old Firm clash was watched by a sizeable crowd at St Aloysius Ground.
Floriana were the better outfit throughout the whole 60 minutes and fully deserved the verdict. They avenged the first round 0-1 defeat in fine style and consolidated third placing which earns them the right to compete in the Knock out Competition which they won last season, they are on 26 points from 14 games while Sliema are on 22 points from 15 games.
Sliema were first to threaten as from a flag kick by Ryan Dalli, Gary Tanti missed the upright with his shot, but Floriana soon reacted and created three occassions in succession between the 4th and 9th minutes: Zack Mizzi served Chris Grech with a square pass and Blues keeper Brian Incorvaja saved his shot from outside the area and also saved a shot from outside the area by Bernard Pisani after a Sasha Borg through ball and after a Borg flag kick the ball was headed away by a Blues defender, and at the other end, Gary Tanti seved Ndam Valontene with a through ball and Greens keeper Jurgen Borg saved his shot in two attempts frominside the area.
Floriana resumed the pressing : Brooke Farrugia served Bernard Pisani with a square pass but he missed the upright with his shot from inside the area and Farrugia served Zack Mizzi witha through ball but he also missed the upright from outside the area.
In Floriana’s next attack in the 25th minute they opened the score: Brooke
Farrugia served Sasha Borg with a through ball in the area and was tripped by a defender and the same player made no mistake from the resultant penalty, and the last action before the break came from Sliema when Marlon Farrugia dribbed past two defenders, entered the area and Greens keeper Jurgen Borg neutralized the ball from his cross sliema created the first two actions after the break: Ryan Dalli after beating a defender he crossed the ball from the right but Borg neutralized the ball and Andre' Ciappara seved Roderick Zerafa witha through pass but he skied the ball from outside the area.
The score became 2-0 in the 36th minute: Sasha Borg won a loose ball in Sliema’s half and after beating a defender he served Luca Casha with a through ball who entered the area and after dribbling past two defenders shot low past Incorvaja. Sliema won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Ryan Dalli and Borg saved the header by Daniel Axiaq.
In the 44th minute the score became 3-0: Brooke Farrugia dribbled past an opponent and seved Zack Mizzi in the area who was tripped by a defender and Sasha Borg scored again from the spot with a hard rising shot.
Sliema reduced the gap in the 49th minute through Dalli who scored from inside the area after being put through by Gary Tanti, but seven minutes later Floriana regained their three-goal lead when Bernard Pisani served Mizzi on the edge of Sliema's area and as Incorvaja came out of his charge to kick the ball upfield he miscued his shot and the ball came in the path of Mizzi who drove the ball into an empty net.
Floriana kept trying and created a further two occasions before te final whistle. Incorvaja saved a free kick shot by Pisani and saved the ball to a corner on a shot by Sasha Borg after dribbling past an opponent on the left flank.
