Lowell Still presumed innocent

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

With reference to your back-page story by Michael Carabott (TMID, 11 April) entitled: Law excludes Norman Lowell from contesting MEP elections, it has to be emphasised that since an Appeal before the Court of Criminal Appeal is pending, with a possibility that a reference to the Constitutional Court be requested, Mr Lowell is still presumed innocent until proven definitely guilty.

Hence at the moment in time, Mr Lowell does not fall within the legal ambits your correspondent referred to, irrespective of how long it takes for the appeal to be appointed or when the evidence is re examined and submissions heard in the light of the 64-page Application Appeal and 23 requests filed by my client on Tuesday, 8 April.

Therefore, Mr Lowell as Leader of the New Right political / cultural Movement Imperium Europa still has every intention to contest the forthcoming European Parliament Elections in 2009 and is yet legally eligible to do so.
