Respecting The Data Protection Act

Malta Independent Sunday, 13 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

From Mr C. Agius

Reference is made to. Anthony Micallef Debono’s letter “Elections are hard going” (TMIS, 30 March).

This person, who I believe is a Head of School and is contesting the MUT Council election, had requested the Union Secretary to furnish him with thousands of MUT members’ postal address and other personal details.

Mr Micallef Debono wrote that he was surprised to “ receive a negative answer”. As an MUT member, I fully endorse the MUT General Secretary’s responsible decision not to give in to who has no knowledge whatsoever of the serious consequences that would be suffered by the Malta Union of Teachers and the General Secretary of this Union.

The MUT has always respected the Data Protection Act and this is one of the many reasons why this union has gained the respect not only of its members but also of the population at large.
