Senglea A 1
Tarxien R 2
Holders Tarxien Rainbows scored an injury time winner against Senglea Athletics to move to the semi-final stages.
Hero for Tarxien was their captain Simon Shead who returned with the first eleven with a bang scoring a brace that put the Rainbows through.
The match was a real bore to watch, with both sides unable to lift the match from sheer mediocrity.
The start was very promising with two goals in the opening twenty minutes of the match, but this was not to be.
Tarxien forged ahead on 13 minutes when Angus Buhagiar anticipated the Senglea custodian and crossed towards the onrushing Simon Shead who somehow managed to score even though he practically miskicked the ball.
However Tarxien’s joy was shortlived as Senglea equalised six minutes later when Simon Aquilina headed home an Azzopardi corner.
Senglea were the better team in the first half even hitting the base of the upright through Ewurun.
In the last part of the second half Tarxien showed the better ideas with the Senglea goalkeeper saving a blinder off Mathhew Borg, with Melvin Pisani hitting the upright.
On 92 minutes Simon Shead was put through by Essien Mbong and the Tarxien striker kept his cool to beat Agius with a precise grounder.
