Malta’s Shaun Parnis reached the semi-finals of the World Cup championship in Warilla, Australia, yesterday after defeating his Canadian opponent in the qaurter-final.
Despite losing the first set, Parnis fought back to win the second comfortably, therefore levelling the match. In the decisive third frame, and last end of the play-offs, he needed to win by four points, but that is what he exactly did (see photo).
It was a nail-biting game with an emotional finish which will now see him facing an opponent from either Australia or New Zealand – the two great favourites for the title – on Friday morning. This quarter-final is to be played tomorrow.
Parnis is being given great support from the Maltese Bowlers Social Group members, of whom there were quite a few, as well as several locals.
