Maltese Double Trap shooter William Chetcuti (photo) showed better form than in his recent participations yesterday but a sudden loss of concentration in the second round of 50 clays was the main factor for his failing to reach the finals of the World Cup championship in Beijing.
Chetcuti’s form had dipped considerably in the past year or so, but in Beijing yesterday, he hit a good first round of 47, a not so good 43 in the second and another good 46 in the third and final round before the finals.
His overall score of 136 out of 150 was not enough to enable him to reach the finals, however. He needed another three clays to make it to the final six, but his performance has been described as very encouraging considering the results he obtained during the past few competitions.
Mosin Vasily from Russia won the competition with a total of 191. Second was Eller Walton of the US with 188, while Saif Alshamsy of the United Arab Emirates was third on 185 (+2) after a shoot-off with Faulds Richard of Great Britain who obtained 185 (+1). Fifth was Leybo Mikail, also from Russia on 183 and sixth Richmond Joshua from the US with a total of 181.
