A generous donation by the Hungarian Canoe Federation put smiles on all Malta Canoe Federation members last month as 14 racing kayaks arrived in Malta.
As well as a total of eight Olympic racing kayaks, six kayaks for children (including 10 paddles) and two moulds were also donated (see photo). These kayaks will most certainly be put to use amongst school children through the Development Programme which elite athlete Chris Camilleri of the local Federation is currently working on.
In the immediate future the Olympic kayaks will be used by local athletes for both national and international competitions. The new boats will add a dynamic competitive edge to this years sprint season which local sprinters Chris Camilleri and Matthew Schembri will certainly compete in.
The first marathon racing kayak on the island will also be put to use by Nicki Borg Costanzi who is training for marathon racing.
The Malta Canoe Federation thanked the Hungarian Canoe Federation as well as world class Hungarian coach Tibor Virag who is currently coaching local athlete Chris Camilleri.
The federation would also thanked Chris Camilleri, Peter Borg Costanzi and Joe Borg as well as all those involved who made this acquisition possible.
