Football – BoV Premier League: Good Chance for Msida to move closer to safety

Malta Independent Monday, 21 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Premier League continues this evening at the National Stadium, Ta' Qali with another two matches.

The first match is in connection with the Relegation Pool and here Msida St Joseph will be facing Pieta Hotspurs.

In the second match of the evening, Marsaxlokk will try to overtake Birkirkara and move to second place with a victory over Floriana.

The most important match will certainly be the first in which Msida seem to have a pretty good chance of movinc closer to safety if they beat the Hotspurs.

At present, Msida have a six-point lead over Pieta. If they win tonight, they would need just one more point from their remaining three matches to condemn Pieta along with Mqabba into next year's First Division.

On their part, the Hotspurs badly need a win themselves to maintain their hopes of salvation. If they win, they would move three points closer to Msida and that should not be a gap too difficult to bridge with three more matches to go.

Marsaxlokk will then be expected to return to winning form against the demoralised Floriana.

The Greens received a big setback to their hopes of saving their season when the MFA decided against granting them a UEFA licence – a decision which sees them barred from playing in any European club competition next season.
