Fgura-Siggiewi 0-1

Fgura created the first goal scoring opportunities through Clayton Garzia whose shot just went wide and an attempt by Mark Ellul which was saved by Vella.

In the 11th minute Siggiewi had a shot by Mark Camilleri which was well saved by Farrugia with the Siggiewi keeper twice denying Fgura off efforts by Ivan Pace and Matthew Spiteri.

Then Siggiewi went close through Jason Camilleri with Fgura wasting a clear opportunity through Vince Testaferrata from a Mark Ellul corner-kick. In the 67th minute Fgura went close as a shot by Matthew Spiteri was saved by Vella with Siggiewi coming back through Marlon Vella whose effort was well saved by Vella.

In the 75th minute Fgura’s midfield player Mark Ellul was sent off after he had elbowed an opponent and in the 80th minute Siggiewi wasted a penalty with Eman Ciappara’s shot from the spot bouncing off the crossbar.

In the 84th minute Siggiewi still managed to score for what proved to be the winning goal as Chris Bezzina’s cross from the right flank was headed in by substitute Marlon Vella. Seconds before the final whistle Fgura were close through Matthew Spiteri.

Zejtun C.-Qrendi 4-0

After ten minutes Glen Azzopardi Busuttil went close for Zejtun following a square pass by Roderick Gafa.

Four minutes after the restart Sergio Schembri opened the score for Zejtun with a low shot and in the 54th minute Andy Portelli’s corner-kick was headed in by Jesmar Abela to make it 2-0.

Qrendi’s reaction produced dangerous attempts by Ludvic Bartolo and Jesmond Azzopardi which were saved by Fardell with Zejtun’s defender Roderick Gafa being shown the red card in the 65th minute when he made unwarranted remarks to the official.

Despite this handicap Zejtun continued to be the better team and made it 3-0 through a Ludvic Fardell penalty, given when Jean Paul Abela was fouled by Richard Galea.

A minute into injury-time Zejtun’s striker Andy Portelli finished off a personal effort with a low shot which went past Matthew Mangion for an emphatic 4-0 win for the Corinthians.

Xghajra T-Ghaxaq 1-1

Xghajra dictated the run of play during the first-half but they were very poor and careless infront of goal.

Ghaxaq opened the score in the 14th minute as a good move by Michael Caruana was finished off by Francois Galea.

Then attempts by Jonathan Cachia and Jesmond Azzopardi went just wide and on another occasion France Mizzi headed over the bar from a Jonathan Cachia free-kick. Ghaxaq were also close to increasing their lead as Kevin Gambin hit just wide from the edge of the penalty area.

Eight minutes into the second-half Xghajra had a shot by Jesmond Azzopardi which went just wide. Then they were twice denied by Celeste off efforts by Godfrey Micallef and Jesmond Azzopardi but they managed to obtain the equaliser as a Jonathan Cachia corner-kick was headed in by Lizio Grech.

In the 84th minute Ghaxaq were close through Noel Bilocca and then the same played missed two sitters. Mtarfa have now ended bottom of the league standings and now need to seek re-election to the Third Division League.

Mdina K-Zebbug R 2-1

Zebbug created the first goal scoring opportunity as a George Saliba shot was saved by Sciberras.

In the 14th minute Matthew Francalanza gave Mdina the lead with a low shot.

Zebbug’s pressure paid off in the 28th minute with Nazzareno Abela getting a deserved equaliser with Mdina wasting a clear opportunity through Matthew Francalanza.

The same Mdina striker was very close just before the break with an angled shot bounced off the upright. In the 52nd minute Matthew Paris headed Mdina into a 2-1 lead with Zebbug coming back through a George Saliba counter-attack whch was cleared with difficulty by the Mdina defence.

At the other end Mdina were very close through Nicky Micallef with the Rangers’ final efforts producing attempts by Jeremy Gatt and Gordon Mallia which were saved by Sciberras.

Section B

Pembroke Ath-Santa Lucia 11-0

Santa Lucia created various opportunities in the early stages with Joel Grima shooting just wide after just seven minutes.

Then a header by Tonio Micallef and two shots by Kurt Grima were saved by Debattista but it was Pembroke who opened the score through Liam Camilleri in the 25th minute.

On 44 minutes Camilleri took advantage from an error by Marco Attard and just before the break they increased further their lead through an excellent shot by Steve Micallef.

Pembroke dominated the second period and in the 50th minute they gained a penalty for a handling infringement by Charles Agius but Liam Camilleri’s shot from the spot was saved by Attard.

However they scored two quick goals through Steve Micallef and Jeffrey Fenech in the 52nd and 55th minutes to make it 5-0 with Liam Camilleri notching his hat-trick in the 63rd minute for Pembroke’s sixth goal.

Three minutes later the Saints ended up with ten players when Charles Agius was sent off for an ugly foul on an opponent and this paved the way for Pembroke to continue to score further goals through Liam Camilleri, Kevin Vella, Carlo Leonardi, Luke Desira and Simon Buhagiar for an 11-0 final scoreline, the biggest score this season.

Gharghur-Luqa SA 0-0

The first period belonged to Luqa with Clive Psaila going close early on through a well-taken free-kick by Clive Psaila.

Gharghur missed a sitter through Antonello Brincat after having been put through by David Galea with Luqa being denied by Vella off a shot by Pirrone. In the closing stages of the first-half Luqa just missed the target through Christian Caruana.

Two minutes after the restart Gharghur had a low shot by Edmond Lapira which was saved by Agius with Luqa coming back on the hour through Pirrone whoe shot just missed the target.

In the 65th minute Gharghur were denied by Agius off an effort by Christian Glass and three minutes later the Luqa keeper was again on hand to stop a dangerous attempt by Robert Southward.

In the 81st minute Gharghur’s striker Marvic Grech was sent off for a second caution. Gharghur’s final efforts were neutralised by Luqa who obtained a deserved point.
