La Salle Vitality outclassed a depleted Ta’ Xbiex Kavallieri ASC side with a score of 24-13 in the only game of the day from the Women league. A

After some good performances throughout the season no one expected Kavallieri to such a head dive in their results. Missing hard shooter Natasha Celic, and with La Salle marking Emma Larsen tight, Kavallieri found no option in attack especially in the first half with only four goals in their tally.

La Salle started unsteady as well in attack but as the first quarter passed by, they settled well and started scoring with ease after good transition of the ball in attack.

In the second half Kavallieri reacted well and were much better at their attacking end. Defensively both teams suffered from big gaps on the line which allowed the backs to shoot with ease from the six-metre line.

The second half was more balanced whereby – when considering the goals scored – Kavallieri managed to provide a better opposition to their opponents. The match confirmed La Salle’s strength and also that Kavallieri – had they worked more together during the season – would have offered a bigger challenge to La Salle and Aloysians.

The much awaited game between La Salle AMC and Aloysians Prominent lived to its expectations some suspense even before the game started. The game was a very tense one with no team conceding an inch. La Salle with their fast play were the most spectacular team but Aloysians were effective and the game was tied on 7-7 score up to the 24th minute of the first half.

In the last six minutes of the first half, La Salle opened a five goal lead.

The second half saw Aloysians conceding only three goals in the first 20 minutes and succeeded to draw level. La Salle recovered from the shock only in the last ten minutes opening a three goal lead in the last minute. Aloysians managed to pull one back but La Salle managed to control the lead till the final whistle for a 20-18 win.

In the second match from the men league, D6 Seabank lost against a tenacious Kavallieri Shireburn side. The game was a balanced one with Kavallieri being the strongest team at the start with a four goal tally.

D6 recovered the deficit by the 10th minute and the half continued to be a balanced encounter with no team managing to open more than a two goal advantage. Kavallieri, enjoying a goal advantage in the break, came out from the dressing room determined and managed to open a three goal lead once more. D6 Seabank did their utmost to pull the game back but Kavallieri managed to control till the end for a scoreline of 25-21.

The disappointment in D6’s camp was evident as they gave a lot to the winning side. Though Kavallieri deserve all plaudits for their campaign in which they fought for the second place, D6 gave away too much during the game with three missed penalty shots and playing 10 minutes with a men less. This game’s outcome is a good indication for the coming K.O and the also coming season.
