This game was very shorn of shots at goal and both keepers were not much troubled. Following this game Floriana are in third spot on 31 points from 18 games while Pieta are fourth from bottom on 25 points from 16 games.
The game was controlled by young and promising referee Andrew J Sammut who had a firm control of the proceedings and he was correct in showing three yellow cards.
The first actions came from Floriana: from a Mauro Grioli corner kick Mark A Borg headed over the bar, Mark A Borg served Warren Cardona in the area but Pieta keeper Samuel Bartolo saved his header, after a flag kick by Russell Marmara, Alan Abela headed slightly high and after a free kick by Borg, the ball was partially cleared and Greg Marney hit the side-netting from the rebound.
In a Pieta reaction, David Caruana was served on the left flank and after he was fouled, Greens keeper Kyle Gerada was forced to fist the ball away after the free kick by Clifford Gauci. Minutes later he saved a shot from inside the area by Benjamin Zammit after he was put through by Jamie Christie.
*The first actions after the re-start came from Floriana as Marney served Mark Spiteri with a square pass who after entering the area had his shot saved by Bartolo. In the 44th minute the referee showed the yellow card to Pieta player Keith Fedele for a late tackle on Grioli and the ball was cleared away after the resultant free kick by Borg.Cardona. Later Grioli served Spiterri with a short corner pass and Bartolo saved his shot from outside the area.
In a Pieta reaction, David Caruana served Clifford Gauci outside Floriana’s area but Gerada saved his shot. In the 56th minute Clifford Gauci was the second player to be entred in the official’s black book for arguing his decision.
In the 58th minute Floriana came very close to break the deadlock when Marney served Cardona in the area and Bartolo denied him with a fine diving save to corner.
At the other end Caruana was fouled just outside the area and Gerada saved the free kick by Mark Sammut. In the 67th minute Pieta player became the third and last offender to be entered in the official’s black book for arguing his decision.
Pieta won a corner kick on the left flank which was taken by Gauci and Grech headed over the bar and the last action before the end came from Floriana when Marney was fouled on the left flank of the area and the ball was cleared with difficulty after the free kick shot by Borg.
