The Council of the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) yesterday announced that the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had, through a resolution passed during its annual conference in Paris, recognised the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) as the national ruling body for motorsport in Malta.

The Council of the Malta Motorsport Federation has welcomed this important milestone which is the product of silent effort which has been ongoing since the formation of the Federation in 2007. Achieving top international recognition is an important first step for the Malta Motorsport Federation which will now be visibly expanding on its efforts to provide professional support to member clubs and associations in Malta.

The main objectives of the Malta Motorsport Federation as endorsed during the federation’s inaugural meeting held on the 11 September 2007 are (i) to unite the local motorsport fraternity under a single recognised entity with the objective of consolidating motorsport in Malta (ii) to advocate safety, environmental, and educational considerations connected with the sport and (iii) to promote and support Maltese participation in motorsport activities abroad.

Affiliation with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has rendered the Malta Motorsport Federation as ideally positioned to promote the interests of member clubs and associations.

The issuing of Maltese Competition Licenses by the Malta Motorsports Federation, for example, shall ensure that the high standard of Maltese drivers and the equally high standard of preparation of local racing cars are appropriately recognised at an international level.

Following the attainment of this milestone, the Council of the Malta Motorsports Federation shall be working on several initiatives which include the strengthening of the Federation’s internal operational framework, the articulation of a Strategic Plan for Motorsport in Malta for the period 2009-2011, the consolidation of motorsport facilities, and an appropriate presence on the Internet.

In the meantime, the Council of the Malta Motorsport Federation congratulated Mr Clyde Puli on his recent appointment as Parliamentary Secretary for Sport.
