Who does the government think that the opposition is?

How can the government expect that the Malta Labour Party agrees with appointing a Speaker of the House of Representatives from within its ranks and at the same time bind itself to a pairing agreement?

Wasn’t it the Nationalist Party that refused such a pairing agreement in 1996, when the MLP had a one-seat majority very similar to the one that is being enjoyed by the Nationalists at this point in time?

The MLP should make it hard for the PN to keep up its commitments very much in the same way as the PN put spokes in the government wheels during the 22-month Sant administration.
