President Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday was on his second day of an official visit to Zebbug, in Gozo, where with mayor Carmel Saliba he visited the Mgr Giovanni Andrea Vella primary school, which opened its doors 50 years ago.
With Mrs Fenech Adami the President also visited the parish centre where the tradition of l-Ghazziela was explained to them. They also visited the place where Charlie Cefai produces gbejniet, for which Gozo is celebrated.
L-Ghazziela is linked with Zebbug. It is a bit of pastry given the shape of the letter M, for Marija, which after baking is blessed and hung against house doors as protection against bad weather.
The visit ended with a meeting with councillors and a commemorative ceremony marking Zebbug Day.
