We should be proud of ourselves.

We will soon be celebrating our fourth anniversary since joining the European Union, and it will soon be also four months since Malta adopted the euro as its currency.

We have already forgotten what the lira looked like, and most of us have already got used to calculating prices based on the new currency without having to mentally convert the cost back to the lira.

All this is thanks to a long period of preparation and loads of information that was forthcoming from the National Euro Changeover Committee. We managed to absorb the new currency in no time, and this without any hitches or difficulties.

Sometimes we underestimate ourselves. We think that we are of a lower standard when compared to other nations.

But when something like this happens we should realise that we are not inferior to anyone. If anything, we are able to adapt ourselves to new challenges much faster than others.

That is why we should be proud of ourselves.
